ultrasound #2

here we are at eight weeks… i think, i’m not exactly sure because they measure things a little differently at dr. hollywood’s office.  i think we are eight weeks exactly today but i’m not 100% sure.  if we were measuring the way that it’s normally done i would be eight weeks on friday, but dr. hollywood said i ovulated a few days earlier than normal and blah blah blah, i don’t know, let’s just call it eight weeks.  in any case, we have one strong heartbeat, baby b didn’t make it, but we’re ok with that, our ultimate goal was to have one baby, and i’m not going to lie, i was a bit overwhelmed at the prospect of two, but really we would have been happy either way.  baby b is still there but has no heartbeat and will probably be absorbed.  dr. hollywood said that it’s yolk sac is a little large which sometimes indicates chromosomal problems.

baby a is measuring spot on at 14.8mm and i could hear it’s heartbeat LOUD and CLEAR today, it’s heart rate was 170 and dr. hollywood said it’s yolk sac is normal sized, phew, breathing some sighs of relief, but i’m sure i’ll be back to nervous wreck soon enough.  with this ultrasound we have officially graduated from reproductive endocrinologist to obgyn, which is exciting.  i called and made my first ob appt, they wanted to schedule me for next week but we are going on vacation and won’t be back until the 19th, so my first ob appt is july 21st.  it’s just the nurse consult but i’m excited to be going back to my ob!

here’s an ultrasound picture, it’s kind of confusing because baby b is still there on the left, but baby a is the one on the right and that’s our survivor! it’s also still pretty blurry and i can’t really make out any baby shape yet, but i feel better knowing that a is still there and going strong.

p.s. i don’t know what’s up with my widgets but they are not working for some reason.  i’ve never had any problems with my ilcw widget but it’s not showing up the way it usually does,  i was also really hoping to put up one of those widgets showing what the baby looks like but it’s not working either, it just shows up as text.  anyone have any ideas?

Thank goodness you posted! I had been thinking about you all day!
My next appointment with a regular OB is july 16th….hoping we can take a peek and see if we still have 2 hbs.

  • I’m glad to hear baby A is doing well. I’m sorry about baby B. I’ve been out of the country this past week but was hoping things were A-OK on your end.

  • I’m so glad all went well for baby A and I’m so sorry about baby b. How exciting to have your first OB visit booked in, you must be starting to feel a little more like this is real now. How amazing is hearing that heartbeat, it’s crazy right, that something so little can have such a hold on you.

I’m no good with widgets I’m afraid, I ask hubby to fix things for me when they break, I hope someone has an answer for you.

  • I was looking forward to this update today. Sorry to hear that baby B didn’t stick around, but so glad that you have a strong heartbeat in baby A. I’m going with girl! Looks like we have our first ob appointments on the same day! Congrats!

  • Congrats on baby A doing great! Sorry about baby B, but I do understand that must come with mixed feelings. Multiples are not something to be taken lightly for sure. Good luck in the weeks to come, and have a great vacation!

  • sorry for your loss, but happy to hear A is thriving!

no good answers about the widgets.. possibly some part of the link missing? what type of widget box are you using to put in the text? wordpress is kind of a pain about some, like they won’t let me put my paypal link on the front page or any google ads. *shrug*

  • I’m glad you’re back! I’m so sorry about Baby B, but SO happy Baby A is so big and strong! Congrats on graduating to your OB/GYN!

  • thanks for all the well wishes, it is too bad about baby b but we are not crushed or anything, we’ve still got baby a and we’re very happy with that.

  • yeah, they have a doppler but not sure how great it is about detecting one or two heartbeats….and everything I have read says that it starts to be most effective around 10 weeks and I will be just shy of 9….I am hoping that the OB will want to know how they are doing and how far along I am based on personal knowledge….not just my records and what I tell her :)
glad that you are doing well!!

  • Still so excited for you!

  • DEAR GOD THIS IS AMAZING! praying for Baby A!!!!!!

  • I am so sorry about Little B, but I am elated about Baby A. I was so nervous for you.

  • Hi Kate. Just read your post. Sorry to hear about Baby B :( Having twins is pretty exciting but the most important thing is that you come out with a healthy baby, whether that be one or two. Baby A sounds like s/he is just that!
