my husband has decided not to go out of town this week, so he will be able to go to my ultra sound with me tomorrow AND my iui which will be thursday or friday.  i am so relieved, it was hard to do it by myself last month.

i wish i could be more optimistic about getting pregnant, but i am a born pessimist, better to be pleasantly surprised than constantly disappointed.  i am sure that this iui won’t result in a pregnancy.  the prospect of ivf freaks me out because it is so expensive.  we will only be able to do it once (at least this year), and if we do it i don’t think we’ll be able to buy a house next year, which sucks, but having children is more important than having a house.  here is a list of ivf expenses from my re:

Cost of IVF at The Fertility Center (prepay) 2007
IVF Cycle Preparation Costs
Follicle Ultrasounds (4) $596
Lab Monitoring (4) $324
Cost of IVF Cycle Preparation Sub Total $920
IVF Procedure Costs
ART Case Managment $700
Egg Retrieval $1326
Embryology Lab Charge (Culture and Fertilization) $1020
Embryo transfer and prep $1122
IVF Procedure Costs Sub Total $4168
Basic IVF Cycle costs excluding Medication, ICSI and Cryo $5088
Additional Costs if Necessary:
ICSI (Direct sperm injection) $1020
Assisted Hatching $510
Blastocyst Media $500
Cryopreservation of Embryos $510
Cryopreservation costs after 1st quarter (per quarter) $95

Medication costs are approximately $2500 per IVF cycle. This may vary depending on prescription coverage. You will need to check with your insurance carrier for benefit information.

i work in a pharmacy, so i get an awesome discount on drugs, i get them at cost + 10%, examples: 15 clomid tablets cost me about $13, 30 days of estrace costs me $1, but the markup for some drugs (like ivf drugs or any brand name drug) is minuscule, so they pretty much cost the same as they would if i didn’t get a discount.  my ovidrel for example, would cost me over $60 at my work, but i order it online from freedom fertility pharmacy (they have more buying power than we do and probably pay less for it than the pharmacy i work at does)  for around $44.  blah, money, money, money… anyone have any recommendations on good ivf pharmacies?
